How many emails do you get a day?
100? 200? More? That candidate that you’re trying to chase down? They do too. So how can you break through, get their attention, and get them to consider thinking about coming to work for you? It starts with doing a bit more work to craft a message that’s just a little more unique, useful, and interesting.
Be Personal.
Be Useful.
Be Brief.
Many headhunter emails look exactly the same. That’s because they’re probably sending the same message to you and 100 other people, just hoping that a few will reply. You can make a few tweaks to your outreach messages and drastically improve your odds of getting a response.
Candidates not responding to you? Here are a few things that will help you break through.
Be personal. Look at their LinkedIn profile. Do some research on their current company. Google their name. What comes back? Do you share anything in common with them? Anything stand out? Include this in your note! Make it personal and strive for connection.
Be useful. According to a Linkedin study, the vast majority of job candidates wonder (1) what it will be like to work here and (2) how they will be able to get ahead. So tell them. Tell them about your culture. Share the most important objectives you want this person will accomplish. Give them information about the role they can use.
Be brief. Keep it short by structuring your message into three sections:
(1) Why I’m reaching out to you
(2) What the company does and why it’s interesting
(3) Why we need YOU, what you’ll get to work on, and with who
…How often do you check your Linkedin? Use email and other methods to get in touch.
A McKinsey study found that the average worker sends more than 25% of their day on email. That compares to a paltry 7-10 minutes on Linkedin per day for the average user. So why are you only using Linkedin to reach out to candidates?
