BUILD THE BACK OFFICE.

Find resources to help recruit, interview, hire and onboard the members of your team that will make it possible to elevate your own role.

Feeling overwhelmed?

We put a lot on our CFOs. Over time, we’ve realized our finance teams tend to be short-staffed from what they should look like.

It is critical that our CFOs are able to get “in the weeds” of our businesses - but at some point, you need to be able to build a team around you to trust that the minutia will be handled so you can focus on the bigger picture.

The first critical hire we believe a CFO should have - if they don’t have one already - is a strong right-hand Controller. The combination of financial acumen along with strong accounting knowledge is a one-two punch that is hard to beat, and makes for a great starting point to hire great talent underneath those roles.

We also believe that our CFOs can get a lot of runway from hiring an FP&A analyst early; one who can help take some of the load of monthly KPIs and sales operations off your plate. It is also our hope that strong Controllers will be able to hire strong accountants: from A/R and A/P-focused roles to a senior accountant when the company is ready for one.

The ugly truth is, this “ideal team” is much, much easier said than done. Hiring is hard: from recruiting to interviewing to onboarding, it isn’t easy to find and retain talent in these roles. That’s why our Operations team members focused on Talent have done a lot of thinking around this.
